What is the term for the back part of the skull?

The back part of the skull is referred to as the occiput. This region is anatomically important as it houses the foramen magnum, the opening through which the spinal cord passes to connect with the brain. The occipital bone forms the base and back of the skull, providing protection for the brain and supporting the structure of the neck.

In contrast, the frontal region pertains to the forehead area, the temporal relates to the sides of the skull near the ears, and the parietal bones are located on the top and sides of the skull.
